BRIDGE College in Openshaw, Manchester, has celebrated the opening of its new extension, providing four additional classrooms to support specialist education for young people.
Vice Lord-Lieutenant Eamonn O’Neal cut the ribbon alongside student Dana at the opening celebration.
The college, part of the Together Trust, is open and operating, with students already using the new classrooms. It supports young people aged 16 to 25 with learning difficulties, disabilities, complex health needs and autism.
The extension provides more specialist teaching space and is designed to allow Bridge to support more students. It also includes new meeting rooms and a room for colleagues, following the opening of the new main entrance in June.
John Cannon, Principal of Bridge College, said:
“We’re excited to be in the new extension. Our new main entrance opened in June, and students now have access to the four new classrooms, while colleagues can use the new meeting rooms.
“The new section blends seamlessly with the existing building, just as we planned. The builders and contractors have worked with us throughout the project, and it’s wonderful for students and colleagues to have full access to the building again.”
Bridge College develops individual learning programmes around students’ needs, interests and aspirations. Students can build communication and independence skills, take part in work experience and explore supported internships, with specialist support tailored to their needs.
