‘What Comes Next?’ is a short documentary campaign film directed by Gabriel Brown and funded by the Virgin Money Foundation through the #iwill Fund, with support from youth charity The Key.
The film’s focus is on promoting the importance of PSHE/life skills lessons in schools, focusing on how important they are to young people’s growth. The film, almost two years in the making, contains footage shot from all across the North East of England featuring young people in schools and youth work settings.
The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department of Culture, Media & Sport are each investing £25 million seed funding to create the #iwill Fund. Virgin Money Foundation is acting as a match funder and awarding grants on behalf of the #iwill Fund.
The power behind the film is its youth voice, featuring interviews from recent school leavers, young firefighter’s, and youth protestors, amongst others.
The film is scheduled to launch on March 31st at 7pm and will be an online premiere via YouTube on Gabriel’s YouTube channel.
The premiere will be preceded by a Zoom event starting at 6.30pm, featuring young people and decision-makers, both those involved with the film and externally. One or two of the young people featured in the film will be speaking at the event too. Following the film, there will be a Q&A.
“It feels amazing to finally be launching this film after working on it for so long. I think this film promotes a very critical topic in schools that really flies under the radar, and I’m excited for people to see the film and share their views.”
Nancy Doyle-Hall, Executive Director, Virgin Money Foundation, said:
“Through the #iwill Take Action Fund, the Virgin Money Foundation supports young people who are passionate about changing society for the better. ‘What Comes Next?’ powerfully presents the views of young people, calling for a commitment to teaching PHSE in such a way that every young person leaves education feeling prepared for adulthood. It is an incredible piece of work that amplifies the voices of young people, and we are thrilled to be supporting its official launch.
A change.org petition has been created in relation to the film’s message over at: http://chng.it/2zDkH8Qs, and Gabriel is encouraging young people to sign it and make their voice heard.
