Action Tutoring is a national education charity supporting pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve a meaningful level of academic attainment, with a view to helping them progress to further education, employment or training.
Sadly, education isn’t a level playing field in the UK today, as the income of a child’s parents can directly impact their own academic attainment. Action Tutoring wants to change this through its tutoring support for school pupils – and help them to achieve regardless of their backgrounds. Tutoring can be incredibly powerful in supporting a child academically and it shouldn’t be accessed only by those who can afford it.
Action Tutoring partners high-quality volunteer tutors with pupils to increase their subject knowledge, confidence and study skills. The charity offers tutoring sessions in English and in maths, at both primary and secondary school level, and currently works in eight regions in the UK: Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and the Wirral, London, Newcastle, Nottingham Sheffield and Sussex. Action Tutoring’s vision is a world in which no child’s life chances are limited by their socio-economic background.
