Whizz-Kidz, one of the UK’s leading charities supporting young wheelchair users, has announced the appointment of Sarah Pugh as only the third Chief Executive in the charities’ 30-year history.
After six years with Heart of Kent Hospice, Sarah joins Whizz-Kidz replacing Ruth Owen OBE, who departed to join Leonard Cheshire after 17 years at the helm.
Sarah’s previous roles include Head of Corporate Fundraising at Breast Cancer Care. She joined Heart of Kent Hospice in June 2014 as Director of Income Generation, later appointed to Chief Executive in May 2015. Sarah will officially join Whizz-Kidz in May 2021.
Over the past six years, Sarah has led Heart of Kent Hospice to be awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission, in 2019 the Hospice was awarded Kent Care Charity of the Year and more recently, over the past 11 months, Sarah had led the Hospice through the many challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.
“After a busy and rewarding six years as Chief Executive of this amazing Hospice, I feel that now is the right time to move on. I am incredibly proud of everything that has been achieved and the impact that the Hospice has on the daily lives of our patients and their loved ones. I feel very privileged to have worked alongside such a dedicated team that are committed to providing the best compassionate care.
“I am delighted to accept this incredible opportunity to lead Whizz-Kidz in its next chapter. The charity has achieved amazing things in the last 30 years, supporting thousands of wheelchair users across the UK, and I’m very excited to help it meet its ambitious goals to reach and change the lives of even more young people. I look forward to meeting the team and can’t wait to get started.”
Whizz-Kidz Chairman, Sir Crispin Davis said:
“We’re really pleased to be welcoming Sarah to Whizz-Kidz. She brings a wealth of experience and a track record of delivering transformative change.
“Sarah clearly has a compassionate and empathetic nature, is a real team player and will, I believe, fit in very well with the Whizz-Kidz family culture. We are excited to have her leading us into the future as she shares our ambition and commitment to take Whizz-Kidz up to a new level to transform the lives of even more young wheelchair users for years to come.”
