HUNDREDS of people are preparing to walk under the bright lights of Blackpool in memory of people they love in Blackpool Memory Walk.
The event is a popular way to remember and celebrate the lives of family, friends and colleagues, as participants walk either five or eight miles under the Blackpool Illuminations.
It is organised by Trinity Hospice, and everyone taking part is helping the hospice to provide compassionate palliative care to all who need it across the Fylde coast.
Previously known as Illumathon and Neon Memory Walk, the event encourages walkers to get ‘good to glow’ by wearing bright accessories on top of their bespoke Blackpool Memory Walk t-shirts.
And new for this year, all walkers will get their finishers medal in advance because it has been specially made to allow for a photograph to be inserted of the person being remembered.
Trinity’s Events Manager, Kirsty Miller, said:
“Our events season really is back in full swing. We’ve had such an amazing response to our previous events – Colour Run and Night Run – and now we’re really looking forward to Blackpool Memory Walk.
“It’s been such a challenging year for everyone in our community, and we know there are sadly so many people out there who have lost someone close to them over the last 18 months and haven’t had the right opportunity to celebrate their lives.
“Our Memory Walk is a very positive event, all about having fun while remembering the good times we’ve enjoyed with others who are no longer here. Throughout the night we’ll be sharing those memories alongside live entertainment, and we have some lovely ways for our walkers to remember those who are close to them.”
Blackpool Memory Walk takes place on Saturday 18th September. Entry closes at midnight on Thursday (16th Sept). Please visit: www.blackpoolmemorywalk.co.uk for more information.
