TRUST Music Charity in Bolton has appointed a new Chair, successful businessman, David Porter.
David Porter is a retired Senior Partner from Fieldings Porter Solicitors who majored in Charity law for many years and was originally involved in the formation of Trust Music as a charity in Bolton 6 years ago.
“Having helped form the Trust I want to help it grow. The work that Trust Music does is one of a kind in the region and indeed the whole of the UK. Through bursary support, we ensure that all young people have access to music regardless of their ability to pay. We raise vital funds to give young people The Gift of Music – it enriches lives beyond measure- providing discipline that requires individuals to practice, but also so many social and wellbeing benefits, – supporting young people to make music, teaching skills, love of music, respect and friendships that can last a lifetime.”
David himself played the cello and does his best on the guitar. His mother was a concert pianist and music teacher so he understands more than most about the educational benefits and life-enhancing magic that music can bring.
Trust Music is a Bolton-based charity that believes in music as a power for good in the lives of all children. Through Studio Sessions and fundraising campaigns, Trust Music generates funds to support music education and engagement for young people, particularly for those who are experiencing significant barriers to accessing music opportunities.
Covid-19 has hit young people in Bolton hard. Since 2019, the number of young people playing music outside school has fallen from 950 to 210, due to health and financial pressure on by local families.
Our current Gift of Music Campaign aims to reverse this decline, offering young people opportunities to take lessons, hire instruments and play in ensembles together- with no cost to them
