FRIDAY 30 April 2021 will see the launch of Charitable Travel Fund’s #CharitableTravelFundChallenge in support of JustGiving’s Captain Tom 100 initiative, giving travel-loving fundraisers the opportunity to unite in support of tourism communities around the world that have been impacted as a result of the COVID pandemic and win 100,000 Avios points by participating.
Charitable Travel Fund have added a travel twist to the initiative, encouraging people to envisage their favourite tourist landmarks around the world as they take on their ‘100’ challenge, this could be climbing the height of one of the world’s most wonderful sights, 100 times, for example – climbing the equivalent of Niagara Falls 100 times on a staircase at home or re-connecting with friends and family and jogging 100 times the height of the Taj Mahal in a local park. In doing so their fundraising efforts will be supporting those people and destinations who have suffered due to the lack of tourism.
Melissa Tilling, Founder and Trustee of Charitable Travel Fund said:
“Captain Sir Tom, may he rest in peace, continues to be an inspiration to all of us; and now his Foundation acts as an amazing call to action to support all charities across the nation who help people, animals and the environment globally! The Charitable Travel Fund charity are excited to take part in the Captain Tom 100, with a #savetravel twist, by encouraging supporters to run, walk, swim, hop, ride a distance 100 times the height of your favourite tourism landmark raising money to help people in tourism destinations in dire need when tourism stops.”
As an additional incentive to take part, Charitable Travel Fund have teamed up with IAG Loyalty and one lucky participant who completes their ‘100’ fundraising challenge will be selected at random and rewarded with 100,000 Avios points to help them on their way to future travels. With 100,000 Avios points in their account, the winner could purchase 5 x return flights to Europe (off-peak, Economy). This would then cost just £1 plus 18,500 Avios per person. With 100,000 Avios points, as a ‘travel currency,’ they can be used to buy or part-pay for trips all over the world.
Rob McDonald, IAG Loyalty’s Chief Commercial Officer said:
“We are delighted to be able to support the Charitable Travel Fund’s initiative as it perfectly reflects our values of health and wellbeing and to our commitment to support great causes and especially to continue in the support of the fundraising that Captain Sir Tom Moore began.”
Contributors can fundraise or donate to Charitable Travel Fund through a dedicated JustGiving page and share their ‘100’ activity on social media, using #CaptainTom100 and #CharitableTravelFundChallenge. The Avios winner will be drawn from those who take part through the Charitable Travel Fund JustGiving page.
