The Great GOSH Row: London Fundraiser Launched to Support Children’s Cancer Centre

LAST week marked the launch of an exciting new fundraising challenge in the heart of London – a 16-mile rowing event from Greenwich to Chiswick.

London Youth Rowing (LYR) has partnered with Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity) to deliver the latest version of their iconic team challenge. On Thursday, 17 July 2025, over 100 participants will take to the water, with each team aiming to raise £3,000 to help GOSH Charity build a new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH)

GOSH already treats the highest number of children with cancer in the UK, with a long history of pioneering advances. But these advances have outstripped the hospital’s current facilities, and they need a new home to develop more breakthroughs. The facility will be designed with the needs of children and families at its heart to help more children beat cancer once and for all.

With places limited to just 128 fundraisers, making up 16 teams, the event is anticipated to sell out quickly. Open to all experience and ability levels, each boat will have a water safety team and a cox, making it accessible even for first-time rowers.

While open to the public, GOSH Charity hopes to see many companies take part, including new and existing partners. Cheer points at key locations and bridges along the route, as well as a post-event celebration, are being planned to create an unforgettable experience.

GivenGain, the not-for-profit giving platform, helped broker the partnership and will act as the event’s official fundraising partner. As a Foundation themselves, 100% of donations will go to charity, including GOSH Charity, benefiting from its new, free automated Gift Aid service.

Registrations for the event are now live, and participants can register at: gosh.org/row.

Will Irwin, UK Lead at GivenGain, said:

“After working closely with Matt and the LYR team this past year, I know first-hand just what an incredible job their team do in delivering first-class rowing events. London is home to some of the most iconic events on foot, and I believe this could be the start of something special on water. It was a no-brainer to introduce them to GOSH Charity, who have such a positive approach to embracing new ideas and concepts.”

Matt Rostron, CEO at London Youth Rowing, said:

“Working with Will and GivenGain has been fantastic. Their events portfolio review identified a unique opportunity to leverage our expertise and support the wider sector. As a paid delivery partner, we benefit alongside GOSH Charity, who now have a powerful new event to raise funds for their Children’s Cancer Centre appeal. LYR has a strong track record of supporting other charities, but this feels very special, and we’re excited by its potential. It’s exactly the kind of collaboration the sector needs.”

Gabi Field, GOSH Charity’s Deputy Director of Public Fundraising, said:

We are so excited to be launching the inaugural Great GOSH Row challenge this year alongside London Youth Rowing. By taking part in this fantastic new event, you can help GOSH Charity build a world-leading new Children’s Cancer Centre so we can continue to give seriously ill children the best chance and best childhood possible.”
