TEENAGE Cancer Trust Trustee Richard Rosenberg plus two friends and business partners, Laurence Finger, and Charles Bradbrook, are setting off on an epic 1160-mile cycle ride next week (13 October) with the aim of raising £75,000 for the charity Teenage Cancer Trust.
Teenage Cancer Trust funds 28 specially designed units within NHS hospitals that bring young people with cancer aged between 13 and 24 together, to be treated by experts, in a place designed to feel more like a home than a hospital ward.
On their route, Richard, alongside Laurence and Charles, who are all aged over 65 years old, are set to visit the cities and towns across the UK which have a Teenage Cancer Trust unit.
The trio will be waved off on the first leg of their challenge by the Teenage Cancer Trust team at the Beatson Hospital in Glasgow on 13 October, and cross the finish line, 1160 miles later on 28 October, cheered on by the charity’s team at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Richard, Laurence and Charles have already raised in excess of £150,000 over the years through similar challenges, which has funded thousands of hours of Teenage Cancer Trust’s specialist nursing care and emotional support for young people with cancer.
On his new challenge, Richard said:
“Last year the three of us cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise desperately needed funds for Teenage Cancer Trust because as with numerous other charities the pandemic had a major effect on fundraising. This year in addition to continuing to raise funds, we wanted to show our solidarity with patients, their families, doctors, nurses and the wonderful Teenage Cancer Trust family. They are not alone!”
Paul McKenzie, Director of Fundraising at Teenage Cancer Trust, said:
“The pandemic has been a huge blow for the charity’s finances and has been especially tough on young people with cancer.
“We have been so grateful for Richard’s support and guidance throughout this difficult time – and are absolutely delighted that he’s decided to take on this huge challenge with Laurence and Charles in support of the charity.”
