Team Barratt get active with Saints Foundation’s disability football sessions

A Hampshire housebuilder swapped safety boots for football studs to take part in a disability football session run by the charity of Southampton FC.

Two employees from Barratt Homes Southampton division, which is partnered with Southampton FC’s charity Saints Foundation as its chosen charity of the year, took part in a ‘SaintsAbility’ session in Southampton.

Organised by Saints Foundation, SaintsAbility runs accessible community football sessions that are open to people of all ages with physical and cognitive impairments.

Glen O’Nion, Finance Director at Barratt Homes Southampton, was part of team Barratt taking part in the SaintsAbility session and said:

“This is just one of the sessions organised by Saints Foundation, which are so important for people in the local area to get active and make friends. It’s been great fun to come along and get involved today.”

Shannon Sievwright, Inclusion Lead at Saints Foundation, noted how grateful the charity is for the leading housebuilder’s support.

Shannon said:

“Our sessions bring inclusivity and opportunity – it’s more than just exercise. People with disabilities often feel marginalised so it’s important to us that we create a space for the whole community, where everyone is welcome.

“We are incredibly grateful to Barratt Homes for joining in with our session and we look forward to welcoming them back very soon.”

Saints Foundation aims to create a more level playing field in the city of Southampton, providing life-changing opportunities to help local people thrive.

Barratt Homes is committed to supporting organisations in the local area and has chosen Saints Foundation for the past three years as its Charity of the Year. This, along with its monthly Community Fund, which donates £1,500 each month to a charity or organisation which improves the quality of life for those living in the region, is part of the company’s pledge to strengthen its ties with the areas in which it is building new homes.
