TOTTENHAM Hotspur player Kevin Danso has become the latest team member to support the Club’s local foodbank, Tottenham Foodbank, after joining volunteers to help prepare for an evening shift following training.
Tottenham Foodbank, which opened almost six years ago, provides emergency food parcels containing at least three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced meals for people in crisis across the community. Last winter, the charity experienced a 20% increase in demand — an additional 166 parcels — with this winter expected to be even busier.
Alongside food, the charity also supplies essential toiletries. However, donations have fallen by 75% since their peak during lockdown, forcing the foodbank to spend over £5,000 each month on essential supplies to keep shelves stocked.
During his visit, Danso worked with volunteers to pack food parcels before touring the facilities. He praised the organisation’s work, saying:
“There are people here working every day, making a huge difference to support their local community. I was just happy to do my bit and show that a club like Spurs and people like me are willing to help and give back. The charity also helps with mental health and financial advice, so it’s nice to know people are going above and beyond to make a difference.”
Danso also reflected on his own values, adding:
“I grew up in Austria, but my parents were from Ghana, and they relied heavily on the support of their communities, which is why I place so much value on community and believe in the power of charity work.”
Tonye Philemon, Project Manager at Tottenham Foodbank, expressed gratitude for the player’s visit. He said:
“Kevin coming to the foodbank underlined how people are noticing the amazing work the staff and volunteers are doing here. We are so grateful, especially with the current funding challenges, as we continue to support over 750 people who rely on our services.”
Tottenham Hotspur has long recognised its role in supporting vulnerable people within one of London’s most deprived areas. The Club donates to local foodbanks annually ahead of Christmas and provides year-round assistance to those living in crisis.
The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has also supported the Haringey Community Food Network (HCFN) over the past year, organising community fundraising events — including a football tournament attended by Club legend Gary Mabbutt — to raise money for food banks and food-related initiatives across the borough.
Beyond this, Danso recently became an ambassador for homelessness charity The Passage, where he volunteered in the charity’s kitchen, helping to prepare and serve meals while meeting those supported by its work.
