A group of frightening fundraisers have raised over £1,900 for The Children’s Hospital Charity with their spooky scare act.
Z Walkers Official is a team of professional scare actors based in Sheffield and since 2017, they’ve attended various events dressed as zombies or other scary or fictional characters, carrying charity tins to raise money for Sheffield Children’s.
Their terrifyingly terrific efforts have paid off and since they started fundraising, they’ve collected an incredible £1,919.35.
Fundraiser, Tony Cartwright, explained:
“Our group came together about 12 years ago when we were all extras in a zombie film. There were a few of us and we decided to start doing stuff for charity.
“We chose Sheffield Children’s because when my daughter, Demi, was young, she was diagnosed with diabetes and the hospital did a lot for us.
“She was really scared of needles and the staff there were so friendly. They couldn’t do enough for us and made her feel at ease.”
As well as zombies, the group take on other scary characters including clowns and The Nun, and not-so-scary characters like Harry Potter.
“We do weddings, we get hired for birthday parties and we go to a lot of comic cons.
“We even took our collection tins down to London for The Walking Dead convention, and we’ve been to events in Nottingham and Birmingham. We’ve been all over getting the Sheffield Children’s name out there far and wide.”
The group are taking their professional scare act to Doncaster Fear Factory this Halloween, then will continue to raise money for Sheffield Children’s at other future events.
“We have a lot of fun and people love us. We’re doing another event later this year and we’ll be taking the tins to that one.
“If anyone else wants to raise money for The Children’s Hospital Charity, they should. You can’t get much stranger than us!
“Walk, run, just be there raising any kind of money you can because the staff at Sheffield Children’s do a tremendous job.”
