Smile Train appoints Sooty as latest celebrity Ambassador

2019 was an exciting year for Smile Train. Not only have we celebrated our 20th anniversary, but we have also welcomed some wonderful new ambassadors along the way. To round off a fantastic year, we are delighted to announce that we have welcomed everyone’s favourite yellow magic bear, Sooty, into our Smile Train family as our latest Global Celebrity Ambassador.

Sooty’s magic tricks and practical jokes first burst onto television screens in 1952 and have been enjoyed by children (and grown-ups) ever since.

In addition to being the source of many wonderful childhood memories for many people all over the world, Sooty has remained a firm favourite for his kind and cheeky personality – making him the perfect ambassador for Smile Train.

Sooty’s role as a Global Celebrity Ambassador will be to raise awareness and funds for children with clefts globally in a two-year partnership that aims to deliver cleft treatment to approximately 500 children in need.

Smile Train UK’s Director of Fundraising, Ian Vallance, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming Sooty into the Smile Train family as a Global Celebrity Ambassador.

With Sooty’s help, we’re excited to bring the power of a smile to more children around the world. At Smile Train, our unique and sustainable model empowers local medical professionals with training, funding, and resources to provide free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children globally.

By partnering with Sooty, we hope to bring many more smiles to children born with clefts so that they can lead a full and productive life.”

Richard Cadell, Sooty’s hand, said:

“Sooty has brought smiles to generations of children over the last 70 years, so Smile Train is the perfect partner for us. We are looking forward to supporting all the great work the charity does and helping to create forever smiles for children all around the globe – using Sooty’s magic to reach as many people as possible.”
