WHEN we initially came up with the idea for Skiggle, it was in response to finding ourselves miles away from home without the box of specialist feed our disabled son, James needed. We prayed for someone to help us out, made numerous calls to health professionals, but all to no avail. The only option was to admit James to a local hospital or drive back home.
Not wanting anyone else to find themselves in that same stressful situation of having nowhere to go or no one to turn to, Skiggle was born.
Now a registered charity across the UK, Skiggle’s pièce de résistance is its unique SOS emergency alert service. No longer do people within the disability community need to worry about being away from home and forgetting a key product or piece of equipment… No longer do people affected by disability need to panic if an essential supply of equipment is delayed or not available.
Skiggle – with its innovative SOS alert service – is a rescue service for the disabled world.
With a growing UK membership of more than 7,000 people ready to step up to help, all anyone has to do in their time of need is sign up to Skiggle and post a completely free of charge SOS alert. Skiggle will then step into action and help find someone within a specific radius to come to their aid with a product from their own (potentially surplus) stock.
Since becoming a registered charity in England & Wales in 2019, and Scotland in 2020, Skiggle has facilitated more than 300 SOS alerts, averaging around four requests for help every single week. Skiggle’s ultimate long-term aim is to make sure any help will never be more than 10 miles away when needed. But to do that, there needs to be a dedicated effort to grow the charity and have a support network in every county across the length and breadth of the country. Please do consider signing up to support Skiggle and helping continue to spread the word through fundraising, donations and ongoing support. You just never know when it might be you or your loved one needing that emergency help.
