ShelterBox appoints Director of People & Culture

INTERNATIONAL disaster relief charity ShelterBox has welcomed Richard Nightingale as its new Director of People & Culture. Richard will support teams delivering the charity’s mission and lead work that ensures ShelterBox’s culture continues to grow in step with the organisation and its ambitions. 

With more than 20 years of experience leading HR teams in the corporate world, Richard has held senior roles on executive and leadership teams. Having relocated to Cornwall with his family, Richard is excited to transition into the charity sector and apply his skills within a purpose-led, values-driven organisation.

Richard said:

“I look forward to supporting colleagues, nurturing an environment where our people can thrive, and guiding teams through continued growth and change.”

Richard previously worked in financial services and held HR Director roles in Barclays, Kensington Mortgages, Investec and Sun Life of Canada.

Since launching in 2000, Cornwall-based ShelterBox has supported more than 3 million people in around 100 countries with shelter and essential items like water filters, solar lights, blankets, and mosquito nets.

The charity recently launched an urgent fundraising appeal for its response in Lebanon, where more than 1.2 million people have been displaced since the recent escalation of conflict in the Middle East.

As well as Lebanon, ShelterBox teams are currently supporting people displaced by conflict in Sudan and Gaza, as well as by Cyclone Gezani in Madagascar.
