NEXT year, Africa will host the UCI Road World Championships for the very first time. To celebrate this, global charity Right To Play has organised a thrilling cycling challenge in Rwanda, which will raise vital funds to support its work transforming the lives of millions of vulnerable children using the power of play.
The challenge event, which will take place from 26 September to 4 October 2024, covers a distance of over 456km, divided into five stages that cover part of the World Championships track. During the event, individuals will cycle in groups of 8-10, based on skill (with options available for less experienced riders), and will be accompanied by two guides, a bus, and a motorbike, to ensure the road safety of the group and quick assistance if required.
The cost for each participant is £15,000, which covers the cycling experience, including a cycling outfit, return flights from Amsterdam to Kigali, accommodation, meals and drinks, professional cycling guidance while on the road, CO₂ offsetting, a one-day ticket to the UCI Road World Championships and visiting Right To Play programmes. The total includes a minimum sponsorship of £5,000 to support children in Right to Play programmes.
Right To Play is a global organisation that protects, educates and empowers children to rise above adversity through play. Last year, the charity made a transformational difference to more than 5.6 million children affected by conflict, poverty and inequality in some of the most difficult places on earth. Right To Play’s programmes are helping children stay in school and graduate, resist exploitation, overcome prejudice, heal from trauma, and develop the skills they need to thrive.
