Record-breaking Offa’s Dyke attempt for veterans’ charity

MILITARY charity Alabaré are excited to announce an imminent record-breaking attempt on the iconic National Trail route of the Offa’s Dyke Path.

Charles Malet, Alex Cooper and Tom Hall will set out to complete the whole of this 177-mile gruelling trail in the fastest possible time, in order to raise maximum awareness and £100,000 for Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans.

Leaving at dawn on Friday 11th September from Prestatyn, Denbighshire, the undulating route runs North to South along the entire historic English Welsh border.

The path is the equivalent of almost 7 back to back marathons with nearly 30,000 feet of uphill – a climb greater than that from sea level to the summit of Everest, before dropping down to Sedbury Cliffs in Gloucestershire, 64 hours later.

Charles Malet was commissioned into the Coldstream Guards and is a passionate advocate for the charity’s work with homeless and vulnerable Veterans in Wales and the South West of England.

Major Charles Malet (Rtd) said:

“My time in the Armed Forces taught me that nothing was ever insurmountable. It was a place where lasting and robust friendships were built on the sorts of experiences, no other walk of life can provide.

Which is why I have spent the last 7 years doing what I can to raise the profile and funds for the charity as it carries out really critical frontline work with Veterans who’ve had the misfortune in life to undergo a set of circumstances, that has led to them being homeless.

We don’t underestimate the challenge this is going to be; it will be brutal but absolutely worth doing”.
