HEART West Midlands Breakfast show presenter Ed James has been announced as the star host of this year’s NSPCC Laughter Ball in Birmingham.
The event, which raised around £50,000 last year, takes place on November 3 at the ICC.
Ed, who has presented the breakfast show each weekday on Heart West Midlands for 15 years, said: “The NSPCC is a fantastic charity that does vital work for children in Birmingham and across the Midlands.
“Their dedicated staff and volunteers really are there for every child, and I am delighted to host the Laughter Ball in Birmingham to show my support.
“I’m looking forward to having a great night and lots of laughs with the local companies of the Midlands for such a great cause.”
The NSPCC’s fundraising team is planning a night of entertainment, food and dancing to raise cash for the UK’s leading children’s charity.
Jazz duo Lady and the Sax will provide the soundtrack during dinner, while Coventry four-piece Edison will take to the stage after the meal.
Last November’s black tie event was compered by comedy legend Jasper Carrott, and saw businesses across the city and the Black Country taking part in auctions and competitions to out-do each other with donations.
And one man surprised his lucky girlfriend on stage in front of a crowd of over 300 guests by proposing to marry her.
NSPCC Community Fundraising Manager Amanda Synnott said: “We’re really pleased to get Ed on board – he will be a fantastic host for an event that’s a highlight of the NSPCC’s fundraising calendar.
“Plans are already well underway to ensure this year’s Laughter Ball will be a night to remember.”
