Quarriers Arrows Service scores a bullseye with new cafe

Quarriers’ Arrows Service in Elgin has hit a new target with the opening of a community cafe, aptly called ‘The Bow’.

The name was suggested by Sam Scott, 40, from Elgin, who entered a competition to name the new facility, which will be a further addition to the support services and practical help available, for people dealing with substance or alcohol use in Moray.

The challenge attracted dozens of entries but Sam’s clever choice of The Bow, was voted as the winner and he was rewarded with a £50 Tesco voucher and a box of chocolates.

Sam Scott said:

“This is the first thing I have ever won in my life. I managed to get some lovely food which I would normally not have. I am grateful to all the staff for all the help and support I have had since coming to Arrows and I would like to help out with the café in the future.”

Marie McDonald of Quarriers said:

“We launched the competition in order to find a memorable name for our new cafe and Sam’s suggestion scored a direct hit. We are delighted to be able to name our new drop-in cafe ‘The Bow’.”

Situated in The Square, 61-63 High Street, ‘The Bow’ is set to open at the end of the month. It is a Community Café where anyone can come and relax in the welcoming surroundings and enjoy good food.

Initially ‘The Bow’ will be open at specified times. It will host the music and art sessions, support groups, acupuncture and other initiatives already provided by Arrows to people in Moray who experience addiction issues.

The Bow is currently looking for people to help in the kitchen, serve in the café, welcome people into the community space, help maintain the environment and organise group spaces or be a stakeholder in the community café steering group. The volunteers will get to meet people from all walks of life in addition to making a valuable contribution to their local community.
