CHILDREN’S mental health charity Place2Be has appointed Wande Showunmi as its new Director of People and Culture.
From this week, Wande will lead Place2Be’s People function, ensuring the charity is a best practice employer, focusing on developing and nurturing talent within a growing and learning organisation, employee engagement, and well-being. Wande’s responsibilities also include Place2Be’s counsellors on placement, who play a vital role in delivering the charity’s frontline support in schools.
Working closely with the CEO, the Director of People and Culture, is also instrumental in leading Place2Be’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy, working to ensure the organisation is truly inclusive for those who work with us as well as the school communities we support.
Place2Be is a leading children’s mental health charity with over 25 years of experience working with pupils, families and staff in UK schools. The charity provides mental health support as well as expert training and professional qualifications. It currently employs around 500 people and provides placements for over 1,000 clinicians every year.
Catherine Roche, Chief Executive at Place2Be, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Wande to Place2Be, at a time when support for children’s mental health has never been more vital. As a learning organisation, we are committed to continuously improving, learning from our practice, evidence, research, and school communities. Wande brings a wealth of experience that will greatly benefit us all at Place2Be as we continue to develop and expand our services to support even more children.”
Wande Showunmi, Director of People and Culture at Place2Be, added:
“I feel privileged to be joining a charity which has such a direct positive impact on the mental wellbeing of future generations. I look forward to working with the team and hope to build on my predecessor’s work by continuing to ensure that Place2Be is a best practice organisation for both employees and counsellors on placement.”
Wande joins Place2Be from Livability, where she was Executive Director for People and Transformation. Previous roles include HR director for the National Autistic Society and Head of People at Homes for Haringey.
Wande is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD, with a post-graduate degree in personnel management and a Level 7 CIPD accredited certification in organisational development and design. She is also a Trustee for Housing for Women. She takes up her role in May, when Place2Be’s current Director of People, Jan McCarthy, retires after five years in the post.
