For the second year in a row, children at a local nursery popped on their favourite pyjamas for a week long Pyjama Party raising £1,773.18 for The Sick Children’s Trust to help every child have their family by their side.

125 tots from Free Spirits Nursery, located at Newcastle upon Tyne’s Freeman Hospital, took part in The Sick Children’s Trust’s Pyjama Party last week to raise money for the charity’s ‘Home from Home’, Scott House. Scott House supports families with seriously ill children undergoing specialist treatment at the hospital’s children’s heart unit.

The week long Pyjama Party encouraged children to be sponsored to wear their favourite jim jams to nursery every day and take part in active, educational and creative activities. The nursery – which held a Pyjama Party last year and raised £1,000 – works closely with The Sick Children’s Trust’s Scott House, often caring for siblings of seriously ill children in hospital who are staying at Scott House.

Free Spirits Deputy Manager Emma Crowe, says: “We had so much fun taking part in The Sick Children’s Trust Pyjama Party again this year! All the children, and the staff, loved coming to nursery in their favourite pair of pyjamas and slippers.

“We’re delighted to have raised so much money for Scott House. Being such a close neighbour of ours, we get to know the families staying at the charity’s ‘Home from Home’ very well and get to see first-hand the incredible amount of support they receive. So we are delighted we can help Scott House continue to carry out its great work by getting involved in the charity’s fundraising activities.”

Scott House – along with nine other ‘Homes from Home’ across the country – provides emotional and practical support, allowing families with a seriously ill child in hospital to be just minutes from their child’s bedside during treatment. While staying in the ‘Home from Home’ is free for families, it costs The Sick Children’s Trust £30 to support a family for one night. The charity relies entirely on voluntary donations to do this.

Scott House Manager, Andrew Leadbitter says: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the children, parents and staff for being part of another great Pyjama Party at Free Spirits Nursery. It costs us £30 to support a family at Scott House for one night, so because of everyone’s generosity at Free Spirits Nursery, this money raised will help many families who are at Freeman Hospital stay together when their child is seriously ill.

“Hosting a Pyjama Party is a great way for local nurseries, playgroups and schools to raise money and know they are directly supporting families. Our ‘Homes from Home’ are run entirely on donations so we urge people to spread the word and help us – like the fantastic children at Free Spirits Nursery – so that we can continue to be there for families when they need us most.”
