To celebrate Trustees’ Week, Nottingham charity The Renewal Trust is asking local people to join its Board of Trustees and share their unique lived experience with communities in Sneinton and St Ann’s.
Cherry Wells, CEO of The Renewal Trust explained:
“As a charity, we’re governed by a Board of Trustees made up of volunteers from the community, public and private sectors who give their time to support and guide our governance and strategic direction. To build on their skills, know-how and passion, we’d love to invite more local people to join our Board, especially those with a background relevant to our focus on community health and wellbeing, or with experience in media and communications.
“Being a Trustee is about being an ambassador for The Renewal Trust and our communities, which is why the lived experience and insight of local people is so invaluable.”
Luke Raddon Jackson has been on The Renewal Trust’s Board of Trustees for 8 months. He said:
“I was born in St Ann’s and growing up in this community instilled in me a deep sense of pride and belonging. I wanted to play an active role in helping my community flourish and The Renewal Trust is the perfect platform to do that. As someone who cares deeply about Nottingham, being part of an organisation that listens to and works closely with the community was a natural step and it’s great seeing the tangible impact of the work I’m supporting.”
The Renewal Trust focuses on nurturing happier, healthier and more connected communities through its community venues, activities and events, community grants and support for local people. They offer a range of affordable and accessible activities and events – from sports, play and holiday clubs for children, young people and families, to Feel Good wellbeing sessions for all ages.
Emmanuel Aboagye-Nimo has been a Trustee for nearly a year. He explained:
“My passion for community work stems from my childhood growing up all over the world and being involved in local projects including homeless shelters and health drives such as immunisation initiatives. I found out about The Renewal Trust through my volunteering for local events in Nottingham. They were facilitating dialogue among local charities about improving social conditions for a wide range of communities. I’ve been happy to be involved in all their activities ever since.”
No prior experience of being a Trustee is required, as The Renewal Trust will provide training, guidance and support. The role is voluntary, but expenses are provided. As a Trustee, you’ll be asked to attend and contribute at Board meetings and other relevant subgroups, as well as being an ambassador for The Renewal Trust’s work and communities.
