HUMANITY First UK has opened a new food bank in Walsall, West Midlands.
Serving the community of Walsall, the new food bank opened to local residents in the Saddlers Centre this week.
The foodbank is managed by Dr Azher Siddiq, an ENT surgeon at Burton Hospital, who commented:
“I’m Walsall born and bred and have lived here all my life. I’ve seen what’s happened to the town over the last few years, with pockets of the town where people are suffering from food poverty.
“The COVID-19 crisis has left all of our society impacted, however, I have seen a great zeal and passion in the people of Walsall to come together with this food bank to help their fellow residents at this time of national emergency.”
Dr Siddiq has served as a volunteer charity worker for Humanity First for several years, having treated patients in Africa at their medical camps there.
The foodbank will be open five days a week and offers the basic essentials needed to feed a family. It will be staffed by volunteers, with support from Walsall Council and other stakeholders.
Humanity First UK are still looking for volunteers and donations, so please pop in or email: firstname.lastname@example.org to step forward and help this local initiative.
