Paul, a Senior Managing Director of Nomura Holdings Inc., a global investment bank, has been involved with Teenage Cancer Trust since 2009 when he led on Nomura’s award-winning partnership with the charity. He became a Trustee in 2011 and was appointed Deputy Chair in 2019.

Paul Spanswick

Paul Spanswick said:

“I am delighted to be taking on this role at such an important point in our history. It is three decades since we opened our first specialist unit for teenagers with cancer and since then so much has been achieved. I’d like to thank David Hoare for his decade-long commitment, which has made a transformational difference, enabling us to build a network of units, nurses and youth workers reaching more young people with cancer than ever before.

“But life remains incredibly tough for the seven young people who get a cancer diagnosis each day. I’m really excited to be chairing a charity which has bold plans for the future; to do everything possible to ensure cancer doesn’t stop young people from living their lives.”

David Hoare

Outgoing Chair David Hoare said:

“I am delighted to be passing the baton to Paul, whose passion for and commitment to Teenage Cancer Trust is evident. Thirty years since our founders, Adrian & Myrna Whiteson, pioneered specialist services for young people with cancer we have achieved a lot and the charity is stronger than ever. I am confident that Paul, working with a fantastic group of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team, will give the Board leadership to ensure the charity makes an even greater difference as it enters its fourth decade.”

Kate Collins, Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer said:

“David has been a terrific Chair for so many years. He is tireless in his dedication to the cause and passion for our work – we are so grateful for his drive, vision and dedication. On a personal note, he’s been a great support to me, bringing his pragmatism, encouragement and energy to all our conversations.

“I am looking forward to working closely with Paul who brings a wealth of expertise and perspective as well as a personal commitment to ensuring we do everything we can for young people with cancer.”
