THE hotly-anticipated Rise Up for the Roundhouse Gala is set to dazzle this year with performances from musical icons Melanie C, Simon Le Bon, and Shaznay Lewis, just the first to be announced.
The star-studded biennial event held at the legendary Roundhouse raises vital funds for the venue’s work with young people. The calibre set by Melanie C, Simon Le Bon, and Shaznay Lewis, underpinned by their combined passion for the Gala’s cause, promises an unforgettable evening on Wednesday 20 March.
Melanie C, a pivotal voice in modern pop, gained fame with the Spice Girls. Still standing as the best-selling female group of all time with 85 million record sales worldwide, their debut single ‘Wannabe’ topped the charts in 37 countries. Melanie’s solo career has landed her over 3 million solo album sales, six top 10 singles, and a self-titled album reaching #8 on the UK charts.
“This was an unmissable opportunity for me, as it’s more than a performance – it’s a celebration of the arts and a commitment to nurturing our creative community. I’m hoping this will be the most successful year yet for supporting the talented young individuals entering the doors of the Roundhouse.”
Simon Le Bon, world-renowned as Duran Duran’s lead vocalist and lyricist, has led the iconic British group through decades of global success. With over 100 million record sales and a 2022 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the multi-GRAMMY, BRIT Award and Ivor Novello winners are one of the most successful and influential bands of all time.
Simon reflected on being approached by Trevor Horn, renowned record producer and Roundhouse Gala Chair, he said:
“Trevor Horn is someone I have enormous respect for, both as an artist and a man, so when he called and asked if I would come and sing at the Roundhouse Gala I immediately agreed. The money we raise on the night is going to a great cause, and I’m really happy to be doing something to help young people.”
Shaznay Lewis, singer and lead songwriter of legendary pop group All Saints, blazed into this year with her first solo music in twenty years. Following All Saints’ multi-award-winning, platinum-selling success, Shaznay spent the last two decades songwriting for household names. Her inspiring comeback showcases Shaznay’s sophisticated sound fueled by years of success.
“My years in the music industry have shown me its transformative power time and time again. The impact of sharing space with a like-minded community can hold weight for a lifetime. I’m truly looking forward to coming together for a night of music, art, and making a difference to young lives.”
The Roundhouse Young Creatives programme engages 8,000 young people each year, offering access to creative opportunities and affordable studio space that can ignite a passion, develop skills or pave the way for creative careers.
All funds raised from the Gala contribute directly to the Roundhouse’s non-profit mission to change young lives through the arts. The 2022 Gala raised an incredible £1.2 million.
Select tables are still available for purchase, including a sit-down dinner, incredible entertainment, and an auction of exclusive prizes featuring artworks by renowned contemporary artists Sir Antony Gormley and Marc Quinn. Amidst the lineup of top talent, Melanie C, Simon Le Bon, and Shaznay Lewis will be joined by Trevor Horn and his band.
