APPLICATIONS are now open for charities hoping to become the Met Office’s next corporate charity partner. The partnership will run for three years, with the application window closing on Friday 13 June 2025.
Every three years, the Met Office selects a new official partner charity. In November 2022, The Wildlife Trusts were announced as the current partner following a comprehensive selection process that included an employee vote. These partnerships reflect the Met Office’s commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, aligning with its organisational mission and values.
Partnership benefits
Jon Stanford manages the Met Office charity partnerships. He said:
“As well as a commitment to fundraising, our chosen charity will also receive other benefits from a partnership with the Met Office. Over the years, we have had the privilege of collaborating with several remarkable charity partners, including Surfers Against Sewage, RNLI, WaterAid, and ShelterBox. Each partnership has brought unique opportunities for engagement and impact.
“The successful charity can expect our support through social media channels, as well as being provided with free ad space on our website. In the past, we have also been involved in joint research projects with our corporate charity.
“Additionally, we recently hosted a symbolic tree planting event to commemorate our three years of partnership with The Wildlife Trusts, after surpassing our initial fundraising target of £20,000.”
What happens next?
After the application deadline, shortlisted charities will be notified by the end of June and invited to a dedicated internal event at the Met Office’s Exeter HQ on Wednesday 2 July 2025. At this event, charities will have the opportunity to meet Met Office staff and showcase their cause. While in-person attendance is encouraged, each shortlisted charity will also be invited to submit a short five-minute video presentation to support their case.
Jon Stanford added:
“Our staff vote will run from 7-25 July 2025, and we will contact each of the charities to notify you if you have been successful or not after the vote has closed. All charities will be notified in early August 2025. For the successful charity, we would expect to officially begin our partnership in September 2025.”
