Lincolnshire’s colourful charity event returns to the showground for 2022

The Colour Dash event is back for a sixth year, promising to be bigger and better than ever before! Join St Barnabas Hospice on Saturday 14th May at Lincolnshire Showground.

This year, St Barnabas Hospice celebrates its 40th birthday. To honour the occasion, the Hospice is bringing back the popular Colour Dash event with more paint powder than ever before and a goal of raising £150,000 for patient care.

The pandemic saw frontline staff, like those at St Barnabas, being celebrated and thanked with rainbows. Sign up to this year’s Colour Dash and experience the joy of being covered in the colours of the rainbow whilst completing a 5km fun run. You will be raising much-needed funds so St Barnabas nurses can continue delivering vital care to vulnerable patients across Lincolnshire.

The Colour Dash is a 5km untimed fun run around Lincolnshire Showground, with participants being covered in coloured, environmentally friendly paint powder at each kilometre. It is designed so supporters can have fun with their friends and family, with no pressure to run any or all of the route; you can run, walk, dance or skip your way around the course.

The Colour Dash would not be possible without kind support from Western Power Distribution and the Lincolnshire Showground.

Early bird tickets are priced at just £5 for children (under 16) and £15 for adults. They are available until the end of February.

On the day, Lincolnshire Showground will be a hive of activity, with food, drink and merchandise stalls, music and a fun warm-up from the stage, the opportunity to see yourself on the big screen and more!

BRAND NEW for this year, St Barnabas will be running their first Donation Station at the Colour Dash. They are asking each supporter to bring a bag of good quality items to donate to their charity shops if they are able. These can be dropped off throughout the day with the Retail team.

To express an interest to be a stallholder, please visit www.stbarnabashospice.co.uk/colourdash-interest and the Fundraising team will be in touch.

Jayne Denham has taken part in the Colour Dash in memory of her beloved husband. She said:

“When the end was near for Nige, the nurses knew and there was absolutely no sense of panic. They made sure he was as pain-free and comfortable as possible. As his breaths became gradually shallower, I began to sing to him, and then he just left. I remember dropping to my knees at that point and the nurses held me and rocked me.

“Nigel had a beautiful death and I feel so grateful that I was able to be with him and witness his transition. Everyone at the Hospice gave so much to my family.

“Later that year, I signed up to take part in the Colour Dash with our children, my sister-in-law and some friends. We all had t-shirts made with Nigel’s face on and the words ‘be more Nige’ across the front.

“What an experience when we set off and got covered in coloured paint powder at every kilometre! It was a great opportunity to just get messy, have a laugh and just be colourful. There was a real buzz in the air and such a sense of togetherness.

“Going through the finish, my heart was truly pounding, the tears from my eyes falling freely. The splashes of colour painted rainbows of joy and pride, not only for a love lost but also for every single missed soul on that most incredible of shared days.”
