Lifesaving charity becomes part of the world’s biggest quiz

For the first time ever, over 40 of the West Midlands’ brightest charities have joined forces for one huge fundraising event, with players across the region invited to play along and help set the record for the world’s biggest charity quiz, in the Great West Mids Quiz.

After being left battered by the pandemic, causes big and small have come together for the virtual quiz, with charities ranging from Arrive Alive, Acorns, Birmingham Mind and local NHS Trusts, all the way through to volunteer-led organisations working with the region’s most vulnerable people set to take part.

Taking place on the 8th October at 8pm, the Great West Mids Quiz is a smartphone quiz, with people able to play along and compete wherever they are. All players need is a smartphone, and a second device like a TV to watch the YouTube livestream on, where the quiz master will talk them through all they need to know.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a quiz without a great prize, and the West Midlands Safari Park has very generously provided an incredible prize of a night in the Red Panda Cottage – one of the most exclusive Safari Lodges at the popular tourist attraction.

Debbie Roscoe, from Arrive Alive, one of the participating charities in the quiz, said:

“Arrive Alive’s charitable income during the pandemic was drastically impacted, following the dreaded lockdown announcement from the government it meant that all of our fundraising events were immediately cancelled which subsequently lead to our charitable income being reduced to zero overnight.

“Arrive Alive is solely reliant on public funding to ensure lifesaving vehicles and equipment can be funded for Community First Responders who are medically trained volunteers who attend 999 calls within communities to support West Midlands Ambulance Service. The pandemic meant that the Arrive Alive team had to implement measures to steer the charity through one of the hardest challenges it has ever faced in addition to being faced with a greater demand for our current lifesaving vehicles. It was a race against time trying to ensure lives could be saved and ensure Arrive Alive survived the pandemic.

“The Arrive Alive team are so thankful to be part of the Great West Mids Quiz to raise much-needed awareness of Arrive Alive as we are still trying to ensure we can continue to operate post-pandemic as more lifesaving 999 vehicles and equipment are still desperately needed as none of us knows when we might be faced with the dreaded but essential 999 calls for help.”

It’s just a £4 donation per player to take part, with teams able to choose which cause their donation goes to. Players can register at
