Hywel Dda Health Charities: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

SANTA’S elves have landed at the offices of Hywel Dda Health Charities in west Wales and we are busy launching our exciting Christmas count-down plans.

This year all our fundraising – through our Give a Gift Appeal, Christmas Jumper Day and sale of Christmas cards – will be supporting younger adult mental health services across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

Our Christmas cards have already been released, with four exciting designs, two of which – ‘The Star on Top’ and ‘Garden Robin’ – are new for 2020.

For the first time, we are including home delivery with the cost of our packs of cards, to make it easier for people to support us with purchases.

Each pack of ten costs £3.95 and the cards have a bilingual greeting which reads ‘Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda’/‘Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’.

Next up is our annual Christmas Give a Gift Appeal, which launches on Monday, 16th November.

The appeal runs over a six-week period and this year aims to brighten the lives of younger adults accessing our mental health services in our three counties.

The Give a Gift Appeal encourages our local communities to purchase a gift through Amazon from a selection of items which have been carefully chosen by our occupational therapists that will be of benefit to younger adults who we help at home, in hospital and in the community.

The gifts chosen for our Give a Gift Appeal this year include items such as arts and craft materials, musical instruments and pamper items to support wellbeing and self-care.

There is always much excitement around Hywel Dda Christmas Jumper Day, which this year takes place on Friday, 11th December during #UKCharityWeek.

Health board staff and members of the public are encouraged to wear their favourite Christmas jumper, hat, tie or socks for a suggested £2 donation to support Hywel Dda Health Charities.

Hundreds take part and there are prizes for the best in several categories.

For further details on Christmas Jumper Day, contact the fundraising team on fundraising.hyweldda@wales.nhs.uk or 01267 239815.

Pictures are shared on social media and lots of fun is had by all.

The whole charity fundraising team is gearing up for a special Christmas countdown this year.

Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, Nicola Llewelyn, said:

“Christmas is always an exciting and busy time for the charity.

“Purchases through our Give a Gift Appeal will make a real difference to the lives of younger adults accessing our mental health services. It is always great to see the dozens of presents arriving at our offices.

“Our Hywel Dda Christmas Jumper Day brings cheer and festive spirit while raising vital funds. It’s always fantastic to see all the different jumpers, hats, ties and socks being sported. Much fun is had by everyone taking part.

“Our Christmas cards are also selling well, with at least one design about to sell out.

“We are very grateful to everyone – staff, patients, families, businesses and the local community – for their generous support.”
