Hundreds take memory walk under the bright lights of Blackpool

MORE than 600 people walked under the famous Blackpool Illuminations in memory of their loved ones, helping to raise £25,000 for Trinity Hospice.

Blackpool Memory Walk took place on Saturday where walkers remembered their loved ones in an emotional video display and through a wishing well, before setting off on a five or eight-mile walk under the bright lights of the promenade.

New for this year, participants in the event – which has previously been known as Illumathon and Neon Memory Walk – were given their finishers medal before taking part so they could include an image of those they were walking for.

Their Blackpool Memory Walk t-shirts also allowed space for their names to be worn with pride.

Events manager Kirsty Miller said the event was an emotional one, but with a very positive atmosphere.

She said:

“Everyone at Blackpool Memory Walk was there to remember someone special, and the event really was all about remembrance and celebration.

“The atmosphere was incredible; it was great to see so many people coming together under the lights to enjoy live entertainment before setting off on their memory walk.”

The event was organised by the hospice, with every penny raised going straight to helping Trinity provide its outstanding palliative and end-of-life care to all who need it across the Fylde coast.

Kirsty added:

“We are so grateful to every single person who took part in Blackpool Memory Walk, and to everyone who supported them through sponsorship to help our care teams reach all who need them across the Fylde coast.

“We’re also incredibly grateful to our amazing volunteers who gave their time to help make this event the huge success it was.

“We’re so pleased our events are back after an extremely difficult 18 months. Everyone supporting us through our events is helping us to be there for all who need us.”

The Hospice’s next event is Firewalk – a brave short walk across embers at Poolfoot Farm on Saturday 2nd October. That is followed by the popular Santa Dash along the seafront, which supports Brian House Children’s Hospice.
