Funding for Stanhope Youth Intervention Programme

KENT Community Foundation has awarded £9,180 to Sport On Your Doorstep CIC to support families in the Stanhope area.

Community focussed organisation, Sport on Your Doorstep, applied to Kent Community Foundation for funding to provide residents of Stanhope in Ashford with a weekly youth programme and a Fit and Fed initiative during the school holidays.

The weekly youth programme supports families within Stanhope who are living with unemployment, and low incomes, are not in education, employment, or training and have children on free school meals. Running alongside this youth programme during the school holidays is ‘Fit and Fed’ which provides families struggling to afford the extra food costs with free activities and free lunches.

Mark Roughsedge, Sport On Your Doorstep, said:

“Our coaches deliver programmes across Kent and Medway in the most disadvantaged and high-risk areas and we were delighted to receive a grant of £9,180 to provide support to families in Stanhope. This grant will provide the young people with a structured multisport programme which engages them in reducing anti-social behaviour in the area, improving participation in physical activity, teaching them transferrable skills for life, helping them get back into school and building CV’s to help gain employment.”

Josephine McCartney, Chief Executive, of Kent Community Foundation, said:

“Sport On Your Doorstep is just one of the many projects that we have funded that helps disadvantaged families who are struggling. As the cost-of-living crisis escalates we know that charity resources across the county will be stretched. We have funding available to help grassroots organisations who are making a real difference to their community and we would welcome applications for financial support from organisations we have supported previously as well as  from community groups and charities who have not applied before.”
