Social justice charity Commonweal Housing is inviting organisations to propose innovative housing models that could improve outcomes for young people aged 16 and over experiencing difficult transitions into adulthood.
Through its Call for New Ideas programme, the charity is offering funding for successful applicants to conduct a feasibility study to explore whether their proposal could become a future housing pilot in partnership with Commonweal.
Funding is available for Commonweal to sponsor up to four feasibility studies, typically awarding between £5,000 and £8,000 per study.
The charity is looking for organisations that understand the challenges facing young people and have bold ideas about how housing, combined with appropriate support, could make a lasting difference.
Applications are particularly welcome from organisations working in Wales and Scotland, alongside England.
As an independent social justice charity, Commonweal Housing focuses on piloting and promoting innovative housing solutions that address social issues.
Successful applicants will receive grant funding to undertake a feasibility study to further explore their housing model idea. If the model proves viable and impactful, Commonweal seeks to work with partners to develop a multi-year property-based pilot project. This may include acquiring properties and supporting project mobilisation, independent evaluation and wider dissemination of learning.
Commonweal aims for pilots to have impact far beyond their initial support for residents. As such, proposals should illustrate how project learnings would be fed back into the sector, and how the idea or model would be scaled and replicated.
The call focuses on models aimed at supporting young people aged 16 and over who experience significant disadvantage or barriers during their transition into adulthood.
Examples of challenges include:
- Care
- Homelessness or housing insecurity
- Contact with the criminal justice system
- Neurodivergence
- Mental ill health (where intensive clinical support is not required)
- Exclusion from education
- Exploitation or abuse
- Other significant barriers to a successful transition into adulthood
Applications are open until Friday 16th October 2026.
Prospective applicants can find the Application Form here and can get in touch with Commonweal Housing to discuss ideas and ask any questions at apply@commonweal.org.uk.
