Freemasons host delightful garden party for care home residents

FREEMASONS have organised and provided a wonderful free garden party for the residents, families, friends and staff of Shannon Court Care Home in Hindhead, Surrey recently.

Thankfully the weather stayed good, with the warm Sunday sun providing the ‘icing on the cake’ for a perfect afternoon.

The residents, and many friends of Shannon Court, enjoyed strawberries and cream, tea and cakes, fun stalls, and a beer and Pimm’s tent, whilst enjoying the nostalgic war-era songs and dance from The Satin Dollz. Residents of a certain age were no doubt reminded of times past and memories from a bygone age.

The event was organised and provided free of charge by the Association of the Friends of Shannon Court, which was formed in 1994 by a group of local Freemasons, to raise and provide additional funds for the comfort and benefit of the residents, as well as the general upkeep of Shannon Court.

The Sunday afternoon was fun, friendly and an absolute delight to attend. It was also uplifting to hear such wonderful live music, see people dancing, and see so many old and young smiling faces.

Shannon Court Care Home is a beautifully renovated Edwardian country home, situated in the picturesque village of Hindhead in Surrey. It provides residential care and residential dementia support for up to 53 residents, with permanent care or short-stay respite breaks.

The new Head of Surrey Freemasons, Nick Burger, said:

“What a wonderful day it has been, with so many happy and smiling faces being the reward for the organisers, whose hard work has made this possible. Frankly, there is so much joy and happiness here today, that I wish I could somehow bottle and share it with others in our communities, who might also be facing challenges in their own lives.”
