Fire cadets take on 999 challenge to mark charity’s 80th anniversary

FIRE cadets from across the UK are teaming up throughout June to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, to mark its 80th anniversary.

The cadets, who range in age from 13 to 17, will take on creative challenges linked to the numbers 9-9-9 or 8-0, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for the Charity – and in the hopes of beating last year’s incredible total of £8,267.

Some of the challenges will include 9 people visiting 9 fire stations while walking 9 miles carrying 80 metres of hose, while others hope to organise mountain climbs, car washes, walks and cake bakes.

The Fire Fighters Charity supports the health and wellbeing of serving and retired fire and rescue service personnel, their dependants and other eligible members of the UK fire services community, throughout their lives, helping them to live happier and healthier.

Gary Williams, National Fire Cadets Manager, said:

“We consider Fire Cadets to be an important part of our service and our communities, and so we encourage them to support both national and local charities. We aim to provide a safe environment where they are supported to achieve and learn new physical and social skills.

“The Fire Fighters Charity has long benefitted from the Fire Cadets through a broad range of local fundraising activities and challenges and, in return, the Fire Cadets are able to access a range of services and support from the charity that may not be available otherwise.”

Kerry James, Fundraising Manager at The Fire Fighters Charity, said:

“On behalf of everyone at The Fire Fighters Charity, I want to thank all Fire Cadets across the UK who are taking part in this fantastic challenge to mark our 80th anniversary year.

“This year is all about celebrating eight decades of helping our fire family – and by our side throughout that time have been our loyal supporters. We can’t wait to see some of the creative challenges our cadets come up with, all of which will directly fund our vital services.”

You can support each of the individual Fire Cadet units, as well as the national effort, by visiting: www.justgiving.com/team/ukfc999.

With The Fire Fighters Charity relying almost entirely on donations to fund its vital work, none of the support it offers would be possible without the generosity of its supporters. You can support others just like them now by donating at www.firefighterscharity.org.uk/donate.
