Everton players past and present turn out for EITC golf day

EVERTON stars past and present turned out in force recently to show their support of Everton in the Community at the charity’s annual golf day.

Taking place on The Old Course at Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa, first-team quartet Mason Holgate, Michael Keane, Andrew Lonergan and Billy Crellin joined former Blues Graham Stuart, Derek Mountfield, Leon Osman and Rachel Brown-Finnis in putting their golf skills to the test to help raise vital funds for the Club’s official charity.

Former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew was also in attendance on the cold and blustery day in Formby alongside many other Everton-supporting golfers and local organisations who took on the 18-hole course that has previously hosted the European Seniors, Challenge Tour and Euro-Pro Tours.

The sell-out event saw Everton in the Community raise a substantial amount of money to help support the development and sustainability of the charity’s 50+ social programmes and, in addition to an afternoon of golfing, attendees also enjoyed an evening of entertainment including a three-course dinner, a question and answer session with Derek Mountfield and Tony Bellew as well as having the chance to take part in traditional fundraising activities including a raffle and auction.

Tony ‘Bomber’ Bellew and his team from ‘Weapons Down, Gloves Up’ came first on the day in the team Stableford competition with a score of 98 whilst Blues defender Mason Holgate came first with an individual score of 40.

Reflecting on the success of the golf day, Everton in the Community’s Director of Income Generation Andy Duff said:

“Our annual golf day is always one of the highlights of our fundraising calendar and today’s event has been no different as we all enjoyed a great afternoon of golf and entertainment whilst raising a substantial amount of money for our wonderful charity.

“I would like to thank our first-team players for taking time out of their busy schedules to come along and show their support and thank you to all of our golfers on the day for giving so generously in aid of Everton in the Community.”

Everton legend Derek Mountfield said:

“I’ve taken part in Everton in the Community golf days in the past and they are always very enjoyable. It was challenging out there today with the wind but it was good fun. Bomber was lucky to win the ‘nearest the pin’ prize but I wasn’t going to tell him that! It was great to see some of the current first-team players here as well, lending their support for a great course.”
