Erskine launches 24-hour radio station for Veterans

ERSKINE is urging people to tune in after launching its very own radio station.

Scotland’s biggest Veterans charity is celebrating the launch of Erskine Veterans Radio, a 24-hour online radio station.

The first of its kind for Veterans in Scotland, it is a new way for residents to stay connected to the outside world and a chance for families and friends to have messages for loved ones read on air.

It also lets Erskine supporters in Scotland and across the UK keep up-to-date with news about the charity.

Great music is played around the clock, and presenter Ian Brannan also hosts an hour of music and conversation along with mentions and dedications on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 3pm (repeated that day at 7pm).

Veterans themselves, families, friends and charity supporters are all being encouraged to go online and get their mentions and dedications in.

Ian Cumming, Erskine Chief Executive, said:

The core mission of the radio station is that Veterans in our homes can listen to their favourite music as well as messages from loved ones to make them feel more connected with the outside world. Not only that, it gives people who support us a chance to tune in and stay up-to-date with our news.

We’d like to thank our sponsors Cue & Review – talking newspapers for the visually impaired, and leading UK telecommunications network provider Commsworld for the extremely generous donation of Amazon Alexa smart speakers to deliver Erskine Veterans Radio throughout each of our four care facilities across Scotland.”

For many people, listening to the radio is part of their everyday routine. It can offer companionship and a way to feel connected. Music has also been proven to have a transformational effect on people living with dementia.

There are three easy ways to tune in to Erskine Veterans Radio:

  1. Visit erskine.org.uk/radio
  2. On your Alexa smart speaker, the first time, say: Alexa, enable the Erskine Veterans Radio skill’, and from then on, you can simply say: ‘Alexa, play Erskine Veterans Radio.’
  3. Download the Erskine Veterans Radio app for your Apple or Android device; simply search for it in the app store.

Veterans, families of residents and Erskine supporters can send messages and dedications by visiting erskine.org.uk/radio, by emailing radio@erskine.org.uk or on the mobile app.
