Empowering women and embracing equity through disbanding stereotypes

FEED the Minds is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) today and challenge the biases women around the world face.  

At Feed the Minds, we have been working with marginalised communities for over 50 years. We have been helping to ensure that people, especially women, who have missed out on school or training opportunities due to extreme poverty, conflict and/or discrimination, have the equal opportunity to equip themselves with the skills and education they require. 

Having access to quality healthcare and health education should be something that we all have access to and is a human right. Being able to provide for your family economically and not worrying about where the next meal is coming from should not be a privilege. 

Working alongside our programme partners, we ensure that women and their families are given access to equal rights, work, and financial inclusion etc. One of our projects in Uganda showed that by embracing men and boys in understanding menstruation and the effects it can have on young girls, they can become male champions and stand equally alongside them and encourage the girls to stay in school and get an education, rather than feeling ostracised. In India, our project showed that young people of both sexes can work side by side learning the same vocational skills, disbanding stereotypes and showing that equity can be achieved!

Equity is not just a gender issue, but a heart issue! So, let’s have the heart to stand up and be a change-maker when it comes to ensuring equality is implemented.

Having access to an equal and fair education makes a world of difference. By working together, we can create a positive change that will impact communities for a lifetime.
