Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home: Edinburgh’s Leaders are ‘In the Dog House’

On Friday 27 September 2019, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home will lock up to 50 of Edinburgh’s top business leaders and influencers in kennels for a full working day in order to raise vital funds for the city’s stray and abandoned dogs and cats.

Armed with just a laptop and phone, participants must reach out to their social media networks and contacts to raise as much money as possible to be released. As participants reach milestones throughout the day, they will retrieve ‘treats’ and meet some furry residents. The person who raises the most at the event will be crowned ‘Top Dog’ at the end of the day.

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home provides a warm and safe environment for hundreds of dogs each year. This event not only raises funds for the Home but provides participants with insight into the journey a dog takes from the moment they come through the Home’s doors at their most vulnerable to the moment they find their forever home.

The first year of the event, in 2017, saw eight participants taking part, raising more than £8,000 in seven hours. In 2018, 15 individuals competed against one another and raised £15,600 for the Home. This year the Home hopes to sign up 50 participants with a goal of raising £50,000 for the hundreds of dogs and cats cared for each year.

A local businessman Scott Webster was crowned ‘Top Dog’ in 2018 after raising an impressive £1,863.81! Scott is already signed up to take part in this year’s event and said:

“In the Dog House was a wonderful experience and one that I will happily participate in each year that it takes place. It’s an opportunity for participants to raise money for an excellent charity, which is extremely well put together by the team. The comradery builds throughout the day, professional relationships are built and it’s a good opportunity to get to know how the charity works. Getting to know some of the dogs throughout the day is also a high point. The team should be applauded for how well the centre is run and the same can be said about this event.”
