DRAVET Syndrome UK has announced that Sandra Awuah, formerly a Senior Social Worker at Enfield Children’s Service, is joining the charity as its first-ever Head of Family Services.
Dravet Syndrome UK is a small, independent UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by Dravet Syndrome, a devastating and complex form of epilepsy that occurs in around 1 in 15,000 births.
People with Dravet Syndrome require round-the-clock care for life. Living with such a complex condition has a huge impact on all the family. At the same time, families face many challenges in getting access to the support to which they are entitled and need.
Sandra’s appointment to this newly created role is an exciting step forward in Dravet Syndrome UK’s mission to improve the lives of families affected by Dravet Syndrome.

“Sandra’s appointment enables us to drive forward our strategy, including long-term goals to reach even more families, improve awareness and understanding amongst professionals, particularly in social services, and empower parents and carers with the tools and support needed to assert their rights.”
Sandra has over a decade of experience in social work within children and families, complex court work, child protection, child in need and referral and assessments, and has held senior social worker positions in several London Boroughs.

Having worked closely with vulnerable families throughout my career, I understand the challenges they face when navigating complex health and social care systems. I’m looking forward to leading Dravet Syndrome UK’s Family Support Team, working alongside families and professionals to ensure that no one affected by Dravet Syndrome feels alone in their journey.”
