DEFENCE Discount Service has partnered with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, to raise funds and awareness for the life-changing support they offer servicemen and women, veterans and military families.
To celebrate the launch of the partnership, Defence Discount Service will be donating £10,000 to SSAFA. The funds donated will go towards supporting the Armed Forces community. SSAFA has been providing lifelong support since 1885 and in 2020 helped 79,000 people.
Defence Discount Service is the Official MoD discount service of the UK’s Armed Forces, veterans and defence community, offering members exclusive discounts on days out, fashion, tech and more.
In addition to running various events and organising fundraising activities over the coming months, the Defence Discount Service team will be providing its members with regular updates and information about SSAFA’s work. As well as showcasing personal stories of those who the charity has directly helped, it will also encourage its staff members to participate in sponsored fitness challenges to raise funds for the charity.
Commenting on the partnership, Tom Dalby, CEO of Defence Discount Service, said:
“SSAFA’s cause is one which is close to many of our hearts. Along with our support for the UK defence community through exclusive discounts, we also aim to provide a community where British Armed Forces, veterans, spouses and defence workers can come together to share their stories.
“Members of the defence community can experience a number of challenges, many of which only become apparent when leaving life in the forces. SSAFA has committed to helping our brave men and women overcome problems arising from the transition and has been helping them to rebuild their lives since 1885.
“We hope our partnership with SSAFA will encourage the Defence Discount Service community to not only support this fantastic cause but to also help signpost the ways members can access support as and when needed.
“Whether it’s signing up to a sponsored skydive, testing their fitness with a heart-pumping fun run, or donating the proceeds of a coffee morning, we encourage our members to join us in getting involved in helping to support SSAFA so it can continue helping to change lives for the better.”
Gary Davidson-Guild, SSAFA Corporate Account Manager, said:
“We are delighted to be partnered with Defence Discount Service and thank them for their generous donation this Armed Forces Day. The money donated will allow us to continue to provide vital support to the Armed Forces community and their families. We look forward to updating DDS on our work and seeing how we can work together in the future.”
Defence Discount Service was founded in 2012 and now has more than 500,000 members who regularly benefit from free access to discounts online through its website, with a wide range of offers available every day.
A Defence Privilege Card can also be purchased for £4.99 for access to discounts on the high street in stores, restaurants and venues and is valid for five years.
