An international charity is inviting people to take part in an epic sponsored bike ride – and is offering participants the chance to win a free trip to Kenya!
The challenge is to cycle 690 kilometres during December this year and raise money for Moving Mountains Trust, a not-for-profit organisation that works with disadvantaged children and communities.
To thank people for their support, the charity is offering a free trip to whoever raises the most sponsorship, allowing them to experience their important work first-hand.
The two-week trip will be spent experiencing some of the programmes developed directly by the Moving Mountains Trust, helping with children who benefit directly from their work and experiencing Kenya’s diverse culture and abundant wildlife on a safari in the Rift Valley.
The challenge is being organised in tandem with another ambitious cycle taking place for the charity. On 8th December, Gilbert Njeru, the chairman of Moving Mountains Trust Kenya, will be cycling from the top of Mount Kenya to the edge of the Indian Ocean in Mombasa.

The 690-kilometre route will take him 6 days to complete and will see him traverse glaciers, alpine heath, and bamboo forest. Gilbert will also cross Tsavo National Park where he will be chaperoned by armed rangers due to the dangers of big cats and predators.
Now, the charity is inviting people to take on their own challenge and raise money by riding the same distance as Gilbert during the month of December. Those more athletic are being encouraged to extend the distance as far as they can or to complete the 690-kilometre in the same 6-day time frame.
There are other ways to support the cause than the bike ride too; anyone inspired by Gilbert’s efforts can sponsor him via his JustGiving page.
All funds raised will go directly to Moving Mountains Trust to allow them to continue their important work with disadvantaged communities in Kenya, Tanzania and Nepal.
The charity empowers communities to create positive change in their own lives and, rather than short-term aid, focuses on long term development. This includes education that starts from early years and continues right through to adulthood.
Moving Mountains Trust is the charity arm of Adventure Alternative – an independent travel company that offers sustainable guided tourist expeditions in many parts of the world. All profits are reinvested into job training and business development as well as long term community development projects which have run into several decades now.
Many of the children who were first supported by the charity now run Adventure Alternative in Kenya and can now support their own children and ensure they never suffer the same privations.
To get involved in the challenge, sign up to the Moving Mountains Trust Strava club, set up a JustGiving page with Moving Mountains Trust as the official charity, and simply start fundraising. Participants are being asked to include ‘Summit 2 Sea’ in the title of their JustGiving page so that the charity can easily keep track of fundraising efforts.
The competition will close at 11.59 pm on 31st December 2021 and fundraising totals must be submitted before this time.
