Colchester mayor visits Clacton Care Home

On Friday 12 May, residents, their families and staff at the Edensor nursing and dementia care home were thrilled to welcome the Mayor of Colchester to their Care Centre in Clacton.

The Mayoral visit was arranged to show Councillor Tim Young how the Edensor team use Montessori principles to care for their residents by supporting them to be as independent as possible with meaningful activities so they can make choices and are treated with respect and dignity. In addition, staff at Edensor were delighted to share their ambitious plans for an end-of-life cabin in the garden, where precious final memories for residents and their families and friends will be made.

The Mayor enjoyed a short tour and took time to speak with residents, families and staff. He then enjoyed refreshments including sandwiches and cakes on board the purpose-built 1950s Edensor train carriage with residents and their families.

Mayor of Colchester, Councillor Tim Young said:

“I have had a beautiful visit here at Edensor Care Home. The staff are lovely, so caring, wonderful and seem so happy. They are an absolute credit to the care home and to the charity. I love the train carriages that they have made here and all the murals on the wall. I wish them all the best and great success for the future”.

Sabina Mach, Edensor Care Centre Manager said:

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Mayor of Colchester today and we were delighted that he took such an interest in how we care for our residents through unique approaches. We explained our Montessori ethos and the way we use colour and visuals throughout the home to stimulate and help our residents and he was particularly impressed with our very special train which evokes memories from years past, to help those living with dementia.

“We also explained our ambitious plans to create a very special, and much-needed, cabin within our garden to enhance the end-of-life care we provide. The project will create a wonderful space for our residents to spend their last few hours or days in a peaceful and calm space with their families.”
