Clear Sky Children’s Charity: Celebrating the return of community fundraising activities

SMALL charities are so fortunate to be supported by their local communities. Often, small unexpected donations allow charities to add the icing to the cake when it comes to delivering services, and this is most certainly true for us at Clear Sky.

As a children’s charity, we are incredibly lucky to attract community interest and have been supported over the years by many local social groups and networks who support our cause.

In 2019 we were lucky enough to become friends of the wonderful Arts Society in Abingdon who have championed our cause through their membership and have raised much-needed additional funds for us, including an Arts Society central grant to support our therapeutic output, using the medium of Creative Arts. We have used these small grants to buy much-needed and welcomed Arts and Play materials for our therapists to use in session with children across the region.

Sadly, it has been impossible for community groups to meet as usual over the past 18 months, so we were thrilled to learn that despite this, Arts Society Abingdon had allocated their grant allowance in lieu of missed membership activities to Clear Sky! Not only that, but we were delighted to be invited to speak at their reunion members’ garden party on 3rd August, the first meeting for the group since the start of lockdown and the first outing for many of their members who have been shielding.

Clear Sky Director Anna Hodgson gave a short update on activities throughout the year and thanked members for their ongoing support. We were then treated to a wonderful tea hosted in the beautiful garden of one of their members, Pervin.

As we chatted and enjoyed the lovely cakes that members had provided, we were treated to an extra special musical surprise, courtesy of 3 incredible harpists also led by Pervin.

What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and a further huge sum of £450 was generously raised on the day! We know that the following day, the same event was taking place for the society’s other local charity too! Quite amazing!

Thank you so much to Pervin, Patricia and all of our friends at Arts Society Abingdon. We are so pleased that you are finally able to be back together again, and we look forward to coming to another wonderful event soon!
