Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans welcomed a new Scottish Government website for people wanting to find out more about eye conditions and the support available for those living with visual impairment.
Eyes.Scot, which launched this week, is Scotland’s new national website for eye care services and eye health information. The site provides information on NHS and community eye health services for members of the public concerned about their vision or wanting to know more about eye conditions. For professionals providing eye care services, there is information on national and local resources, and for visually impaired people, there are details on the national and local sight loss organisations they can contact for support.
As Scotland’s biggest third sector sight loss organisation, Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans have provided input to the Scottish Government on the development of the website. The charities have previously highlighted the need for more information to be provided to people after a diagnosis of an eye health condition and have warmly welcomed this Scottish Government initiative which will ensure more people can find out who can help them live well with sight loss.
Public Health Minister Maree Todd said:
“Eyecare is an important part of everyone’s health. I welcome the launch of Eyes.Scot, Scotland’s new national website for information about eye care services and eye health. Supporting both the public and eye care professionals, Eyes.Scot is an invaluable resource that provides easy access to information about how best to look after our eyes and sight. With the launch of Eyes.Scot, all of this information is now available in one place, making it easier to find and access the right information.”
Mark O’Donnell, Chief Executive of Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans, said:
“If you’re experiencing problems with your vision, or if you’ve recently been diagnosed with an eye condition, it is vital to know where you can find help and advice. We are delighted the Scottish Government has developed Eyes.scot as an invaluable source of clear and accessible information about eye health and who can help provide support for sight loss.
“The Scottish Government has consulted widely to ensure that people can easily find the information they need on Eyes.Scot. A diagnosis of an eye condition is a life-changing event, and knowing who can help makes all the difference in supporting people on their journey with sight loss. We are confident thousands of people will benefit from turning to this site to learn more about eye health and who can support them if they are affected by visual impairment.”
