A body image charity, that offers free mentoring to those suffering from poor body image issues, has come up with a simple way to spread positivity this summer. As temperatures rise, and swimwear season builds, millions of Brits are feeling anxious about their bodies being exposed. Been There, an app-based charity, wants everyone to have a summer of fun, not fear.
As part of their #BeachMindReady campaign to get Brits accepting their bodies this summer, the charity is selling exclusive beach towels with a positive body affirmation on them. The presence of the towel at the beach aims not only to keep the owner in a positive headspace but to spread the message to others who need a lift when at the beach.
Been There Founder and CEO, Tessa Peters said:
“Been There is full of volunteers, who like me, have suffered from body image issues. We all know that feeling of ‘beach dread’ when you go to the beach and feel so exposed in swimwear. We wanted to raise awareness of our charity and our mentoring service so all those suffering know there is help at hand. By focusing on a key trigger season like beach season, we hope to be able to fight the fears so many will be experiencing now and make the beach a safer space for them.”
Been There launched its app last year and is providing free 1:1 mentoring from trained and vetted Mentors. All Mentors have been there themselves when it comes to body image issues, so unlike healthcare professionals, can share their own experiences to help Mentees on their journey of self-acceptance.
The British-made, microfibre towels are available to buy on the charity’s website (www.beenthereapp.com) for £40, with all proceeds going to the charity. Been There has reached out to numerous influencers and content creators in the area of body-positive mental health who have been sharing images of the towels with their followers to help raise awareness.
