THE Grand Appeal is launching an epic London to Paris bike ride for the first time.
Coming together with six children’s hospital charities, it is offering amateur and keen cyclists the opportunity to take part in the iconic trip in aid of Bristol Children’s Hospital and St Michael’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
All money raised will go towards funding vital medical equipment, specialist support staff and family accommodation, making the world of difference to poorly babies, children and their families.
The 309-mile event starts on 8th June 2022, and the Bristol-based charity is calling cycling enthusiasts of all abilities to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime event and change lives in the process.
The famous cycle route will take four days to complete travelling between two iconic capital cities – starting at Greenwich Observatory, London, finishing at the Eiffel Tower, Paris on 12th June 2022.
Cyclists will journey through glorious English countryside from London to Dover before crossing the Channel and starting their French leg of the journey. Biking along quiet country lanes, traditional market towns and through the Somme before approaching the home straight and the pièce de résistance – the Eiffel Tower!
The Grand Appeal will be joined by counterparts from Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, Alder Hey Children’s Charity, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and The Children’s Hospital Charity in Sheffield for this unprecedented fundraising challenge.
Nathan Fuller of The Grand Appeal commented:
“This is a hugely exciting challenge for us to offer as a charity, for the very first time – and it is also a memorable opportunity for any cycling enthusiasts. It isn’t a race, it is a ride, which allows participants to support each other, enjoy the scenery and embrace the atmosphere and camaraderie of being part of such a spectacular event.
“Joining forces with our counterpart hospital charities makes this event really special. It is a rare opportunity for up to 100 cyclists to take to the roads and be part of an epic journey and complete a ‘bucket-list’ personal challenge for Bristol Children’s Hospital and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit while enjoying the iconic scenery along the way!”
