Care home opens its doors for fun-filled, interactive and informative day

On Wednesday 28th June, in support of this year’s Care Home Open Week, charity Friends of the Elderly’s residential care home Orford House in Coulsdon, Surrey is opening its doors to host an interactive, inclusive and fun Open Day.

The Open Day will allow visitors, prospective residents, respite guests and their families to see and experience, first-hand, the wide range of activities and great facilities on offer at the care home.

Michelle Kennett, the Registered Manager at Orford House said:

“Championing and celebrating Care Home Open Week 2023 by hosting our own Open Day gives us a unique opportunity and platform to be able to demonstrate how the care team here is devoted to supporting those they care for to a wider audience. Everyone at Orford House is committed and dedicated to our residents and respite guests to support them to live well and fulfilled lives in their later lives.”

Orford House’s Open Day will take place on Wednesday 28th June from 11am to 5pm. Michelle continued:

“Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the day. We have a fun-filled and informative day planned which will give visitors, prospective residents, respite guests and their families the chance to see what we have to offer; everything from tours of our great facilities to joining our residents in a selection of our inclusive and person-centred activities.”

In addition to tours of Orford House and its facilities, visitors to the Open Day can watch – or take part in – a range of activities with the residents including Crazy Golf and Darts.

Michelle added:

“For those who would prefer a less active day, we have complimentary refreshments available and Mary’s Ice Cream Parlour will be open for anyone wanting to indulge in a delicious, cooling ice cream.

“Our tours will take in all of the care home and visitors will see how spacious, elegant and airy our rooms are. Each room has a beautiful view of the grounds or gardens and as we are surrounded by stunning woodlands, visitors may even get a glimpse of a deer roaming around.

“Visitors will see how our cheerful communal areas are ideal for entertaining family and friends and how everywhere is full of light, even our cosy lounge which is a great place to relax.

“Each member of our compassionate and kind care team – who will be on hand to answer any questions – is devoted to delivering high-quality care to each of our residents and respite guests. In fact, a resident’s family member recently left us a review saying that she could not fault the care her Mother receives at Orford House. We hope that our Open Day will show visitors how our focus on giving older people in our care the chance to live fulfilled lives, whether they stay with us for a longer residential stay, or a short-term respite break is at the heart of all we do.”
