A local businessman, Liam Burton, took on an epic 84-mile walking challenge alongside his brother Gareth, a group of friends, and David Monaghan in the support vehicle.
Liam, the owner of Roof Spec and proud patron of The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, tackled the full length of Hadrian’s Wall from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend from 27–29 August.
The group covered approximately 84 miles over three days, averaging around 28 miles each day across challenging and often demanding terrain. The challenge raised £2890 for The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, which provides free, week-long respite breaks for children across Yorkshire facing adverse childhood experiences. This includes children encountering mental health challenges, trauma and abuse, poverty, as well as serious illness and disabilities.
Through its eight respite homes in Blackpool, Filey and Windermere, The Principle Trust gives families the opportunity to step away from the pressures and difficulties of everyday life, spend precious quality time together, rest and reconnect, and create happy memories that can last long after their break has ended. Through the charity’s Food for Families initiative, families also benefit from a food hamper to enjoy during their holiday, helping to ease some of the financial pressure and ensuring they can focus on enjoying their precious time away together.

Commenting on his fundraising achievements, Liam said:
“As a father, I know how important family time is. Having the opportunity to step away from daily challenges and simply enjoy being together can make a significant difference to a child’s well-being and to the whole family.
“That’s why I’m committed to supporting The Principle Trust and why we took on this challenge. Every step we took along Hadrian’s Wall helped to raise awareness and funds to ensure more families can benefit from these much-needed respite breaks.”
The challenge tested the group both physically and mentally, with participants completing almost 30 miles each day. Liam hopes the challenge will not only raise vital funds but also shine a light on the work carried out by The Principle Trust.
Kerry Magson, Partnerships and Engagement Manager at The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, said:
“A huge thank you to Liam and his group for taking on this challenge. As a charity, we have an incredible network of patrons, including Liam, who has always been an excellent supporter. Thanks to our 100% donation policy, every penny raised will go directly to those who need it most.”
