BREAST Cancer UK has expanded its research funding focus this year to include not only endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) but all environmental contaminants that may influence breast cancer risk.
While numerous studies have suggested potential links between environmental chemicals and breast cancer, further research is urgently needed to strengthen the evidence base and inform future policy changes.
Building on last year’s success, the charity is once again offering two separate grants — the newly named Career Development Award and the returning Seed Award — both centred on exploring the relationship between environmental chemicals and breast cancer risk.
The Career Development Award (formerly the Foundation Award) is designed to support early-career researchers and new investigators undertaking prevention-focused breast cancer research. The award offers up to £200,000 in funding, with an optional career coaching programme available throughout the grant period to support professional growth.
The Seed Award provides flexible funding of up to £25,000, intended to meet a variety of research needs. It can be used to top up an existing project nearing completion, purchase specific equipment, or fund a promising pilot study.
