BREAST Cancer UK is now welcoming applications for a new round of flexible grant funding within an area of unmet need in breast cancer research.
This year Breast Cancer UK has chosen to focus on the relationship between Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) and breast cancer risk. Though many studies have suggested a potential link between EDCs and breast cancer, further research is urgently needed to strengthen supporting data and facilitate a purposeful change in policy.
Following on from last year’s success, Breast Cancer UK is offering two separate funding streams, the Foundation Award and the Seed Award.
The Foundation Award aims to provide vital support for new investigators wishing to conduct research into breast cancer prevention. Applications should focus on EDCs (known or suspected) and breast cancer risk. The award will fund up to £200,000. Primary applicants should be within 12 years of their PhD being awarded. For the duration of the grant, Breast Cancer UK offers an optional career coaching programme to aid professional development.
The Seed Award is focused on chemicals and breast cancer risk and is intended to be flexible in application, to cater to individual research needs. Funding can be utilised as a top-up for a project that is close to completion, to buy a specific piece of equipment, or to fund a promising pilot project. This adaptable grant is limited to a total cost of £25,000.
Applicants must be from a UK Higher Education Institution and may apply for more than one grant from either funding stream using Breast Cancer UK’s grant portal: https://www.breastcanceruk.org.uk/science/apply-for-a-grant/.
The deadline for submitting an application for either award is 14th February 2025.
Informal enquiries are encouraged and can be made by contacting Breast Cancer UK’s Director of Research and Engagement, Dr Hannah Moody at science@breastcanceruk.org.uk.
